I am co-hosting a breakfast to introduce the new president of Emily’s List, Stephanie Schriock in the morning. As I contemplated my introductions I thought about Nancy Pelosi’s speech to house members Sunday night urging them to vote for the health care reform bill saying, “Being a woman will no longer be a pre-existing condition. Having a c-section or being a victim of domestic violence will no longer be a pre-exisiting condition”. I still get goose bumps thinking about that statement. How can that still be an issue in today’s America with all our patriotic zeal and ferver. How can it be that health insurance covers Viagra but not birth control? This is why we need to elect more women to office. This is why I’m supporting Emily’s List, a group dedicated to electing pro-choice Democratic women to public office.
